Well how is your week going? The 100th day on Monday was a busy one!! We wrote or are writing 100 words! We had some trail mix and made some fun hats! I was tired after all of that! I have been so exhausted that I have not even opened my computer! But do I sleep not really….. toss and turn and get up to go to the restroom 500 times a night! All well such is life… so I thought I would share my book center labels I made for my classroom at the beginning of the year! I hope you like them!

Here is a picture of one side of my little girls nursery! I love the tree and the crib! The little birds and owls are adorable! Now to finish the other side of the room!

12 Fact about Myself!!!

I grew up in Oregon but live in North Carolina… far from home! (but love both states). I really love going to any tropical island!
My son turned 7 in January and is obsessed with Video games!
I am so excited to have a girl in May! And I have already shopped for her!! My favorite outfit is a denim skirt and little sister shirt!
I love reading Nora Roberts, JD Robb or Dean Koontz! Okay I read a lot of different authors!
I have a sweet dog that follows me around everywhere!
I will never redo carpets in my house again before Christmas… what a pain to move the entire upstairs. On the upside of this was we cleaned and purged a lot of stuff!
I am the youngest in my family!
I love to watch Survivor, American Idol, NCIS and CSI!
I have the worst heartburn…. all the time with this baby! I have been to the store 2x and still can’t remember to get some Tums! (Trip number 4 to the store finally remembered…. AHH relief at last!)
I have taught kindergarten for 11 years. LOVE it!
My favorite color is red or blue!
Baby #2 will also have a name that starts with a K… My son’s name is Kaden.

2. What book are you reading right now? Would you recommend it? Nora Roberts Key Triology … I’ll tell ya when I finish it!

3. Do you like marshmallows in your hot chocolate? Yes, lots of them!

4. Have you done something you saw on Pinterest this week? yes.. I saw a sign that said your pencil should be talking not your mouth. I told one of my boys that today and he looked at me like I was crazy! All well he just can’t be quiet or sit down to work!

5. What time do you usually go to bed? What time do you wake up? Bedtime 9:30 or 10 and wake up around 5:15am….

6. What is your favorite HEALTHY food? fruit

7. Do you make your bed? Everyday? We just throw the covers over the bed… not always neat!

8. Do you like crunchy or smooth peanut butter? Smooth

10. What is your favorite piece of technology in your classroom? Document Camera… We put everything under it to show the kids and they love to write or do math under it!

Wow… I don’t know what has happened lately just so busy and tired! I have been exhausted with baby #2 on the way! I am so excited to be having a girl in May! What a joy and a surprise! Well what a busy break! I am sorry to see it end! We had new carpet put in the upstairs of our house and had to move all the furniture! (Not fun!) I have been to Ikea twice for new dressers and bookcases! I love that store! I hope you have a wonderful new year! I know I am looking forward to the challenges and rewards!

I am part of a giveaway at Cachey Mama's Classroom! She has 100 followers and is celebrating! Life is really crazy here!!! We are getting new carpet upstairs and had to move all the furniture downstairs! Ugghhh!!! It is driving me crazy! But the good news is that new carpet will be in tomorrow and I can start to put my whole house back together! We had a half day of school and I am exhausted! They imagine the elf running through the room and will swear they have seen him!

Happy Sunday everyone! I had grand plans for making all sorts of winter items to share but instead laid in bed all day feeling yucky! Next week we are all about gingerbread men! This is such a fun unit! I created this writing last year here it is again to share!

I am so behind…. I meant to post these last week but you know how things go! All well! Here are a few crafts we made before Thanksgiving!!
This little cutie my son Kaden made with our Awesome computer teacher! It is a made from a milk carton that was painted and then the part you drink from is the beak! The feathers are made from the kids hands! She made these with all of kindergarten and 1st grade! To Cute!!

These are the placemats we made in our class! The printable is from AlphaMom. We added a turkey handprint and laminated for a cute keepsake!

The last pictures are from the Turkey in Disguise project! I took some pictures from all the K classes! I love this project!

Super cute and creative! I hope everyone had a great Thanksgiving and Happy Holidays! I am working on putting up Christmas decorations!

I love it when I can find sites that make my life easier! What are your favorite sites??
I found a great one for coloring pages and words. It lets you change the font and leaves a space for you to type your own sentence. Another plus is the cute pictures to color.

I just started looking at the site this afternoon. It has some super craft ideas!! I will be pinning them on pinterest when I get home.

Here are a few I pinned when I got home! Just easy and cute!

I had a duh moment yesterday at school!! We were singing some Harry Kindergarten songs and I realized the poem I made into a book was what we were singing! Yep… I had completely forgotten about this! DUH…. really! Please tell me I am not the only one who does this?!! Anyways here are a few other class favorites to sing!

I love these little writing activities for my sweeties! Easy enough for the lower groups and the higher kids turn them over and write more! They think they are so cool walking around with a clipboard! I love it! This next week we are learning about spiders and owls!
Pinterest has some great ideas!! I want to make the balloon spiders and I usually make a hand spider with the kids! Fun times!
I like how these look but will just use streamers for the legs… I really like how the black buttons look on this! Hmmm… I wish I had time to make this little cutie! I may have to settle for paint and plan for next year!!

How cute is the pumpkin with one eye!!! Love it! Who can’t use some more fonts!!!! Me… Me!!

Busy… Busy…. Busy! I feel like a crazy person juggling getting all my school list complete… some home stuff… and baseball practice and games for my son! Okay so some things have suffered like my blog and Laundry! Can someone please invent a closet or machine that does my laundry and put it away! Wouldn’t that be awesome?? The next two weeks we are studying Nursery Rhymes! This is such a fun way to help every student feel they can READ!!! I made the tracing page to rainbow write the letters and then draw a picture! There are so many great resources on the web with for this theme! Here are a few I have found!

I found this site from pinterest that has the poems and some adorable pictures!

They are super cute.. I love the Hickory Dickory Dock! The mouse is to funny!!

Mrs. Saylor’s Log is an adorable blog that has some great printables for nursery rhymes!

The Enchanted Learning has Rebus rhymes.

If you have a subscription to Reading A-Z you can read them as a class! Great stuff there!

I love the USA!

I made this easy sentence for my kiddos to use on Constitution day! I focus on the flag and simple facts about the USA! We make an art project but I wanted to finish a sentence too! I will give them options with picture cues to finish the sentence. ( I see a flag.) The second part of this page is just a USA. I am going to have students color and make their own USA flags! I love watching them be super creative! Here are a few sites I found that would be helpful for everyone!

These are my newly made center signs for my classroom! I have put stars on them so the kiddos can tell how many kids can go in that center! It makes it so easy for them to count the stars and then count the kids! I do not tell them what Free Center to go to but let them choose! It is quite scary some years and have to redirect some sweeties to new center that is quiet! We have only 30 minutes for free play and it is at the end of the day! It is sad that we do not have more time in our day to just relax and play!

So, today is my birthday and it was just another boring day until I read this email from Vera Bradley! The 100 handbag is $29 dollars today only!! WOOT WOOT!!!! I LOVE her purses and had about worn out my last one! I called around some local stores and they had the bags… off I go to buy me a birthday gift! AWESOME! I got the last Mocha Rouge! I LOVE IT!! So excited and to save money too! Can’t Beat that! Then I had to buy a wallet and lanyard! Okay I went a little crazy! I have always used the wristlets but my Droid does not fit.. boo hoo….. so I got the turn lock wallet! It also has a zippered part and my phone fit in it for those quick trips!

Okay… So I saw a pin about making boxes out of the flat rate boxes from the post office and starting thinking of all the cute ways to cover these! So, I checked out the post office website and discovered they will send these boxes out to you for FREE. You can order 10 or 25 boxes… Click here to go to their site! No shipping or anything! Cutting the boxes and making them cute will be time consuming but when they are done and made exactly the way I want it will be so worth it! How exciting is that!

I also found these at Ikea… My most favorite place in the world! I am so going to make a trip there soon!

I also love these shirts from Mrs. Gilchrist’s class. She has made some already to be printed on transfer paper and onto T-shirts. I love the kindergarten one and the 100th Day! CUTE!!! This would be a great gift too!

Zoom Game

A fun and easy way to review/learn letters, colors and number words! I have included lower case letters, upper case letters, color words and number words to ten!
Directions:
1. Shuffle the enclosed word cards and place them face down in a pile.
2. Have students take turns taking a card, one at a time. If the student can read the word on the card, then they may keep the card.
3. If the student picks-up a ZOOM! card then they have to put all of their sight words back into the pile.
4. The student with the most sight word cards at the end of the game is the winner!

What a day of cleaning! What you ask? Okay, it was only my son's room but my gosh 3 bags to donate and 2 of trash! It is updated to the sports theme he has been dying for! I reused a picture frame and put in some of Chipper Jones (Braves baseball player) from our trip last year to Atlanta! I am thinking about putting up some a decal of a baseball player like this:

This song is from Hooked on Phonics on YouTube! It is a cute song for the –ig family! When I study different word families I try to find a craft, song or something to grab their attention and help them remember the word family. There are a couple stories and more songs from Hooked on Phonics. Here is another the kids like….. and for some reason they try to duck when the letters come towards the screen! Funny to watch! Songs like these give me few minutes to prepare materials and makes the classroom more fun! I love it!

Okay... I have to say I have never had a theme in my room.. I get to bored with things staying up to much! But I am going to bite the bullet and choose one! I have been busy making a few more Lesson plan covers! I found an adorable aloha set from Just so Scrappy to! So I had to make a cover with it.. Also included is sports, polka dots and a splish splash one!

I also have uploaded a 5 little monster book to my TpT Store! It is a cute monster color words book and pocket chart sentences for your Literacy Centers! Click picture to check it out!

I don’t know what to do with myself… my little man is at his grandparents for the weekend! I miss him already!!!!!! So hubs and I are having a staycation! I am always looking for ideas for cute sayings for my bulletin boards! So why not have a party!! Here are a few I found that I think are cute!

Kindergarten "Jean"ius - I used a pair of Kaden's baby jeans and put the kids names on an overall shaped notepad!
Taco about a great class! Just found this one! They said they folded yellow circles and added green Easter grass for the lettuce. I think that is too cute!!
Pencil us in for a great year! I would use pencil shaped names and a big eraser or pencil sharpener!
Swinging into Kindergarten! I used monkeys for the names and a big 3-D shaped palm tree!

Tattling Song

I love Harry Kindergarten songs! What a great way to teach about tattling.... by the end of the year I just about lose my mind on this subject with a few kids! I just had a couple of those this year and I think this would have helped a lot!!! It is hard in Kindergarten to get them to understand the difference between tattling and helping a friend. I am so excited to add this to my list of the beginning of the year! What do you do for tattling? I have used the tattling turtle before or just a plain paper bag they share their tattles. Then I tell them at the end of the day I will listen to them. Very funny to watch the regular visitors there. Have a Happy Day!

I have a rolling easel but I would love the storage and versatility of the Royal Reading/Writing Center!(expanded storage)

These are so cute... and of course Target has many different ones. I like these for school and the black oval ones for home! I found the heart ones on Amazon! Adorable!

Crash game and Dolch sight words

I made this game with the list of 2nd grade Dolch sight words. I thought that K and I would play this but he went and rattled off all these words in about 2 seconds! Stinker! Then said to me that was to easy! Smarty Pants! Anyways thought I would share anyways. If you need a website on Dolch sight words check out Mrs. Perkins' Dolch Words. She has them listed by grade level and frequency used. I use them and have color coded them for my kids. Happy Friday!

Yippee! I am finally done with all my stuff! Let's see I hugged kids, finish portfolios, cleaned and organized my closet and moved all my furniture! Now onto the mountain of laundry and messy house! Ocean Art Projects

The picture above is made with crayons and watercolors. Have your students draw an underwater scene with their crayons. Then use the blue and purple water colors but before it is dry sprinkle salt onto it! It makes a very cool bubbling effect.

My class will be working on finishing the pirate pictures tomorrow! They were very excited! I just made a picture of the ocean, a pirate chest, palm tree! We will add the pirate last! I got the pirate from abcteach.com. Click here to get pirate!

This is a easy jellyfish project! All you need is a paper plate cut into half and tissue paper cut into strips. Have your students add decorations to the plates then staple the two halves together. Just add the strips to the inside of the plate! Quick and easy art!

Happy Wednesday! My son has his Kindergarten celebration tomorrow night and he is excited! Then all K's have a fun beach day on Friday! (It is a water day!) WHAT?? This totally made my day! Last night my class had our graduation celebration! They sang their hearts outs (loudly)! To cute! It was a great night of food and fun! But I was super tired for field day today! We were lucky it was partly cloudy and we didn't melt! A few grouchy children at the end but a fun day in all! I had to leave early from school with my own child.... sick.....but he had a miracle recovery later! We came home and watched a movie and just cuddled! (I think Kaden was exhausted, too) Then I found out I was named in the 50 best kindergarten blogs! What? Now a three day weekend! What a great way to start it! We have until June 10th for school and will be learning about oceans!

Oh my Aching Back!!

Today has not been good for my list of Spring Break activities! I hurt my lower back cleaning and rearranging Kaden's toys! I got it all done downstairs area then I bent down to pick up a leftover Transformer piece and could not get up! BUMMER! So, laying on the couch watching movies and working on some things for my TpT store! I have uploaded some Theme Word Wall Words for Oceans, Once upon a time, Farm, Spring/Plants.. busy I know! The creative bug finally came back to visit me! It was gone for awhile because I was just exhausted from school!

Explanation of Math Mountains

Students use Math Mountains to show a total and two partners. The total is written

at the top of the mountain, and the partners are written at the bottom. Students can

imagine that the total splits into two parts that roll down opposite sides of the

mountain. Eight equations can be written for a given Math Mountain.

It amazes me how busy life can get sometimes! My son is finishing up learning to play hockey and is starting baseball! There goes my Saturdays! We do not have Spring Break or Easter Break here in NC for another 4 weeks... I hope to make it... just kidding! We finished our weather unit and have started on Spring! I have not made much new stuff for spring but found a wonderful blog Kindergarten Hoppenings!!! Shannon Martin has great activities, games and worksheets! I made these word wall words for my theme wall! Another idea is to print them again for your students to match the picture with the correct word. Then they could write them!

Write around the room! I left the empty boxes for them to write any words they want! This is an independent Literacy Center and my kids love it!

This is a quick and easy sink float experiment! Always a favorite! I will have the kids draw a picture of the objects and make the predictions. They will then test them!

The weather unit is always a kids favorite theme. We will be watching the weather and how it affects our lives!

I am watching American Idol and taping Survivor to watch later as I am blogging! We have been working all week on St. Patrick's day fun with rainbows, leprechauns and shamrocks! The leprechaun has been visiting us and bringing us treats! Tomorrow we will be trying to trap him and looking for his gold dust! Everyone better keep an eye out for that sneaky leprechaun! Crazy Day!

I just had one of those day! We had a two hour delay due to a dusting of snow.... and it was the 100th day! I had made all these plans for a sub because I was going to a workshop! The workshop got canceled and I was almost late for school due to traffic! Oh my... but at the end of the day with parent help we had our 100th day trail mix. Awesome! One of my little girls came up to me and said, "This was the best day ever!" and gave me hug! How cute! It just made my day! TGIF!!

I got this idea from many other wonderful blogs and my kids absolutely love doing this in a center! It keeps them busy and can be done quickly! I am going to create a few more to put into my center and will upload them later! I have been at home stalking other blogs with a sick child! He had a little stomach bug and missed school for 2 days! Barbie Roper.. I have heard every joke there is about my name! I am a Barbara but no one ever calls me that! I grew up in Oregon and went to college at Whitworth University in Spokane, WA. I have a BA in psychology and a MA in Elem Ed. I went back to school to be a teacher after working with kids with behavior issues. My husband hates taking pictures hence none of him on here but my other love Kaden loves it! I have taught kindergarten at the same school for the last 10 years! It is great place to work! We have one dog coco and two cats!

A: I wanted to be like my dad a psychologist! or a rock star! Ha!

We have been studying different word families each week and my team decided to work on the ed family. I then realized I had nothing for this family! I made an ed write word sheet and sentence and then some games. Enjoy!

Penguin Labeling

We had penguin day on Friday! Everyone wore black and white clothes and we played games. We had a rotation with the other Kindergarten teachers! It was a fun day of learning. One of the activities was a step by step drawing of a penguin and labeling! They laughed a lot at when we sounded out the word belly! This was a quick and fun way to write!

I just had to share what one of my brilliant, sweet boys said today! Oh... so great! The kids were playing at free centers and finishing morning work! Two girls were arguing over a toy and one of the boys turns around from his work and said to the girls, "Hey girls you need to talk it out! We have to share in school!" I could not have said it any better!! Love it!! That absolutely made my day!

I made this book to go with the song from Harry Kindergarten. It is a great way to help kids with those teen numbers and it is fun! I also put the ten frames for easy visuals of the numbers! This is big in our math program!
